| Willunga, Fleurieu Peninsula, South Australia The Willunga basin is at the southern end of the McLaren Vale wine region. Follow the signs and turn off the main highway to explore the old township. Almonds were introduced in the late 1800s and an Almond Blossom Festival is celebrated each Winter. Willunga is an Aboriginal name which means 'place of green trees'. During Summer, vineyards, orchards and olive groves spread lush green in all directions fringed by golden rolling hills to the east and south. A scenic lookout toward the top of the hills boasts sweeping views of the entire region to the edge of the gulf. Close Window |
