Collect a free Kid's Secrets brochure from one of our visitor information centres.

Written by a kid, Simon's Journal will give you and your children lots of ideas on where to go and what to do, including:

Jetty fishing —– bait and rigging tips from tackle shops in many coastal towns.

Water sports —– boating,surfing, hire a canoe or kayak.

Whale watching —– watch the antics from late May through October when the Southern Rights visit our shores with their playful calves.

Also see the South Australian Whale Centre (whales, marine life and maritime history).

Cycling or blading —– shared, sealed pathways run between Goolwa and the Bluff, past Victor Harbor and another connects Willunga, McLaren Vale and the coast at Seaford, with extensions now to Marino.

Skating —– at ramps in Yankalilla, Goolwa, Victor Harbor, Strathalbyn and Sellicks Beach.

Playgrounds —– the ‘ultimate’– adventure playground at Port Noarlunga, and in the parks in most towns.

Kite flying —– the beaches at Goolwa, Middleton, Normanville, Sellicks Beach and Aldinga are just a few.

Cable hang-gliding —– an adrenalin rush for all ages at Old Noarlunga.

Picnicking —– see the map on the inside front of this guide for some of the most scenic and enticing spots.

Trail riding —– horse riding along the beach at Normanville or camel riding at Currency Creek!

Picking strawberries —– at Mt Compass for dessert tonight.

Visiting a deer farm —– at Nangkita, you may get to feed the deer.

Exploring the old fisherma's caves at Port Noarlunga or visiting the geological points of interest at Hallett Cove, Second Valley or Inman Valley.

Riding the Horse Drawn Tram —– across to Granite Island from Victor Harbor has been delighting visitors for generations.

Jumping aboard the Cockle Train, from Goolwa, Port Elliot or Victor Harbor is a thrill to be shared by all.

Theme Parks in Victor Harbor provide fun, adventure and inspiration for all the family - Greenhills Adventure Park, Wild Rose Miniature Village, Urimbirra Wildlife Park.


Museums – most towns have great displays from the 'Olden Days'. Some of these include:

  • Encounter Coast Discovery Centre (whaling and early beginnings of Victor Harbor)

  • Signal Point River Murray Interpretive Centre — at Goolwa (paddleboats and river trade)

  • Yankalilla Museum (farming)

  • Prospect Hill (near Meadows) that records local postal history

  • Willunga Courthouse complex that records the rich social fabric and its industrial beginnings.
