Linear Park is a flat, bitumen path running from Willunga to McLaren Vale. It is used by cyclists, walkers and horse riders and follows what was the old railway line allowing visitors to take in the sights of the Willunga hills and plains. The trail then joins on from McLaren Vale through Pedler Creek and Noarlunga onto the Southern Expressway bike path which ends at Flagstaff Hill.
Cross the Hindmarsh Island bridge from Goolwa for this 25km ride. Take the road along the north side of the Island to Narnu Bay. The road climbs to rejoin the main road, at the spot where Captain Sturt first sighted the Murray Rivers mouth in 1830. There is a monument. Turn left along Randell Road and follow the signs to the River's mouth. Farmlands and wetlands host many waterfowl, in particular Cape Barren geese. Stand for a moment at the point where Australias greatest river system ends. Retrace your path back to Goolwa.
A fun, family ride connecting Goolwa, Middleton, Port Elliot and Victor Harbor. The sealed path is suitable for escorted toddlers on trikes through to those wanting a gentle, seaside cycle. |
Why not cycle one way along the coast and return on the Cockle Train. With facilities for transporting bicycles, the train operates on Sundays and school holidays. For a copy of the Encounter Bikeway trail visit one of the Visitor information Centres in the region. |

A 52 kilometre ride begins at Noarlunga, crosses the Onkaparinga River and follows the coastal road along spectacular cliffs. At Moana, turn inland at Commercial Road to Maslin (famed as Australias first nude) Beach. Continue to follow the coast, via Blanche Point to Port Willunga and Silver Sands beach. Turn inland to Willunga, riding between fields of vines and almonds. Pick up the sealed bike path running between Willunga and McLaren Vale. Numerous wineries, restaurants and cafes offer refreshments. Galleries and studios reflect the creative spirit of the district. Leaving McLaren Vale, detour into Old Noarlunga, one of the oldest settlements in the area. From here, follow River Road along the northern side of the Onkaparinga River back to Noarlunga Centre. |
